This public access area is open from bank to bank, the entire width of the river. The location is in Douglas County proper and is just over a third of a mile in length. Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) has this area posted as a day use area.

This public access point is a 4×4 road onto a gravel bar.  Some high clearance 2-wheel-drive vehicles may be able to make it. Be very cautious of the heavy truck traffic exiting the freeway if you park beside and cross the highway on foot.  There is a huge gravel bar with lots of shallow and exposed bedrock in the river.

This public access area is the west-half of the river only from the west bank to the center of the river.  The location is in Douglas County proper and is just over 2/3rds of a mile in length.  There were a half-dozen dredges operating here during July of 2011.

This public access point is a 4×4 road onto a gravel bar right at the water’s edge.  There is parking on the side of Booth Ranch Road for two-wheel vehicles, then with a short walk to the river.

This public access point is a 4×4 road onto a gravel bar off of Dole Road.  Some 2-wheel-drive vehicles may possibly access this site, as well. It is a large area.  The city of Myrtle Creek allows camping in this area with a permit that may be purchased from city hall @ 541-863-3171. Or you can check their website. Campers must be self-contained with some type of toilet facility.

This public access point is very large gravel pull off located right beside the I-5 on-ramp.  All equipment must be packed to the river.  There are some nice foot paths leading to the river from the SE corner of this area.

Access Point SU-12-C

This public access point is regular street parking at the end of 4th Street in Myrtle Creek.  It is located about 400feet from the river and there are some nice foot paths leading to the river.  The city has an RV park next to this location called “Millsite RV Park.” Call city hall for info @ 541-863-3171, or check their website.

This public area is open bank to bank, the entire width of the river.  This location is in Douglas County proper and is just under half-mile in length.  Known as “Lawson Bar,” this location is at the mouth of Cow Creek.  It is a very popular area for dredging.

This public access point is in the Charles V Stanton Douglas County Park & Campground.  There is very limited parking at the river, but ample parking in the paved upper lot.  There are RV spots here with full hook ups and showers available to the public for a fee.  Call 541-839-4483 for more park information.

This public access point is a very narrow pull off on the side of Gazley Road.  All equipment must be hand-packed down a short, steep bank.  There is room for only three or four cars here.

This public location is Pickett Park, a Douglas County Park located at the end of Canyonville Park Road. Note: It is not at the end of Pickett Lane. There are no parking fees.  There is a paved boat ramp with plenty of parking.  The park is completely surrounded by private land.  This area is a day use area only.

This public access is a gravel shoulder pull off located on Shively Creek Road. The pull off is located 20 feet above the water with a steep bank that drops straight off, making access almost impossible except for one steep trail located at the north-end of the pull off.  All of the surrounding land is private. Please respect their property.  The land at the south-end of the pull off is private property and touches the river right at the bend for twenty feet in each direction.

This public access point is the Carl C Hill wayside area. It is a no-fee area and there is parking for around 20 vehicles. River access is by trail only. There are good trails at the SW & SE corners of park. There is a lot of exposed bedrock here. We observed numerous dredge holes and cobble piles at this location, which is approximately 3-miles downstream from Coffee Creek, one of the richest tributaries of the South Umpqua River.
